COLUMBUS, Ohio – Buckeye Paws therapy dogs will join The Ohio State University’s Suicide Prevention Program on World Suicide Prevention Day on Sept.10 to help spark conversations, share resources and remind the community that suicide is preventable.
Media are invited to photograph Buckeye Paws therapy dogs and Ohio State staff, learn about available resources and see how community members can support suicide prevention and mental health awareness.
The event is from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, outside Ross Auditorium on the first floor of the Ross Heart Hospital, 452 W. 10th Ave., at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
The event is part of Ohio State’s World Suicide Prevention Day efforts to reduce stigma, promote mental health resources and encourage people to check in on one another.
Buckeye Paws was founded in March 2020 to support the well-being of Ohio State Wexner Medical Center employees through visits from certified therapy dogs and their handlers.
In March 2022, Buckeye Paws expanded to assist students, faculty and staff throughout Ohio State’s campus.
World Suicide Prevention Day was established in 2003 by the International Association for Suicide Prevention with the World Health Organization. The day raises awareness that suicide can be prevented and encourages people to help reduce stigma surrounding suicide and mental health.
