COLUMBUS – Former Ohio State University football player Harry Miller will share his inspiring story of personal resilience as this year's keynote speaker at the 13th annual “Faces of Resilience” fundraising event for The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center’s Stress, Trauma and Resilience (STAR) Program and Ohio State’s Center for Psychiatry and Resilience

Miller made national news earlier this year when he announced that he was medically retiring from football. He’s a senior at Ohio State majoring in mechanical engineering. His motto is “Dum Spiro Spero - While I breathe, I hope.”

“We’re gathering together to inspire hope and to celebrate community members who are helping transform behavioral health care for central Ohio and beyond,” said Dr. K. Luan Phan, chair of Ohio State’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health.

In addition to Miller’s keynote speech, Kristina A. Johnson, president of The Ohio State University, will present the 2022 STAR Award to two of the community’s outstanding mental health advocates: Jeff Kaplan and Bob Schottenstein.

Anne Jeffrey Wright and Sally Jeffrey O’Neil will present an award named in honor of their late mother who was a strong advocate for mental health services. The Shipyard Chairman and CEO Rick Milenthal will receive the Nancy Jeffrey Award for his leadership in changing the conversation around mental health and addiction in the community.

Rounding out the awards this year is the Human Service Chamber of Franklin County, the inaugural recipient of the Resilience Award for their service to the community.

Funds raised will support Ohio State’s Center for Psychiatry and Resilience, which focuses on depression, anxiety, trauma and addiction to ultimately prevent suicide and drug overdose deaths, and the STAR Program, an initiative that provides support for health care providers and first responders who experience significant stress and trauma in the services they provide each day.

The event will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday at The Northwest Loge Club – Huntington Entrance at The Ohio State University Stadium, 411 Woody Hayes Dr., Columbus.

Media representatives should contact Eileen Scahill at Eileen.Scahill@osumc.edu to make arrangements to cover this event.
