COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and Hocking Valley Community Hospital have signed an affiliation agreement that will improve the availability, quality and cost-effectiveness of healthcare services, research and medical education in Hocking County.
Under the agreement, the two health systems will remain independent but work together to develop additional close-to-home care options for residents in Logan and surrounding communities who need highly specialized treatments. There may also be opportunities for area residents to join clinical trials without traveling regularly to Columbus. Ohio State’s medical students could have additional training opportunities as part of the new agreement.
Initial collaborative efforts are expected in the areas of general surgery and orthopaedics. Hocking Valley is also part of the Ohio State Health Network, a group founded by Ohio State that allows member hospitals to reduce costs, improve quality of care and provide professional development for staff through supply chain management, shared resources and shared education.
This affiliation is an example of how Ohio State’s Wexner Medical Center is partnering with other organizations across the region to improve people’s lives.
The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is one of the largest and most diverse academic medical centers in the country, and the only academic medical center in central Ohio. The only central Ohio hospital listed in “America’s Best Hospitals” ranking by U.S. News & World Report, Ohio State’s Wexner Medical Center includes: a top-30 College of Medicine; five hospitals; a unified physician practice; an extensive network of primary and specialty care practices; more than a dozen research centers and institutes; and 20 core laboratories.
Hocking Valley Community Hospital is a Critical Access Hospital (25 inpatient bed facility) with a 10 bed geriatric psychiatric unit, emergency department and a wide variety of clinical and outpatient services. Hocking Valley is one of 251 hospitals nationwide that recently earned a 5-Star Quality Rating by The U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in patient satisfaction.
