OHIO STATE NURSE RECIPIENT OF 2014 ANSELL H.E.R.O NURSE SERVICE AWARD

Jeanne LaFountain, RN, is one of ten recipients of the 2014 Ansell H.E.R.O (Heal, Educate, Reach, and Overcome) Nurse Service Award. LaFountain is an OR educator at the Ross Heart Hospital and a reservist in the US Air Force. She has served five tours of duty in America’s most recent armed conflicts. Of LaFountain’s five deployments, four tours have been overseas while attached to the 445th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron out of Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton. The Ansell H.E.R.O. Nurse Service award was established to recognize nurses who have made lasting impressions on their peers, patients, profession and community. AZIZ TO CHAIR NEUROSCIENCE INITIATIVE FOR OHIO CLINICAL TRIALS COLLABORATIVE

Dina Aziz, director of Research of the Neuroscience Program at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, was appointed to chair of the Ohio Clinical Trials Collaborative (OCTC) Neuroscience Working Group. The working group will advance new treatments for patients suffering from neurological disorders. The OCTC provides centralized access to Ohio’s premier medical centers for clinical trial development. The pharmaceutical industry faces a challenging and expensive process for conduct of clinical trials. The OCTC streamlines the contracting, budgeting approval of human subject use and patient recruitment/enrollment processes to move medical discoveries to market faster.


RYAN HONORED BY AMERICAN SOCIETY OF ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY

Thomas Ryan, MD, director of the OSU Heart and Vascular Center, received the 2014 Meritorious Service Award from the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) Foundation. This award recognizes members for their substantial and generous efforts to the society’s betterment. Ryan received the award during ASE’s Annual Scientific Sessions in June. The American Society of Echocardiography Education and Research Foundation was created to provide support for initiatives, such as training scholarships and scientific research.
