LEE AWARDED 2016 AMERICAN COLLEGE OF SURGEONS FACULTY RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP
Peter Lee, MD, PhD, MPH, has been awarded the 2016 American College of Surgeons Faculty Research Fellowship. Dr. Lee’s project is entitled “Effects of Loading on Cardiac Remodeling in an In Vitro Tree-Dimensional Tissue-Engineered Model.” This award, open to all Fellows and Associate Fellows of the College, is presented to just five recipients in 2016. The fellowship will support Dr. Lee’s research efforts for two years to establish a new and independent research program. At the end of the award period, Dr. Lee will present his research findings at the American College of Surgeons annual meeting. 
 
 
JAMES RECEIVES 2015 MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH BUREAU DIRECTOR’S AWARD
Arthur James, MD, medical director of Ohio Better Birth Outcomes, received the 2015 Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB) Director’s Award. The associate administrator for MCHB annually presents this award to selected individuals who have made noteworthy national level contributions to the health of infants, mothers, children, adolescents, and children with special health care needs. In addition to Dr. James’ recognition of his numerous contributions to the MCH field, Dr. James was recognized for his leadership and participation in the Infant Mortality Collaborative Improvement and Innovation Network (CoIIN). 
 
 
OSU WEXNER MEDICAL CENTER RECOGNIZED BY OHIO FIRST STEPS FOR HEALTHY BABIES
The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center, along with other maternity centers in Ohio, is taking steps to promote its support of successful breastfeeding. The Ohio First Steps for Healthy Babies is a voluntary breastfeeding designation program through the Ohio Hospital Association and Ohio Department of Health that recognizes maternity centers in Ohio for taking steps to promote, protect, and support breastfeeding in their organization. In partnership with the Ohio Breastfeeding Alliance and the Ohio Lactation Consultants Association, the Ohio First Steps program is recognizing facilities with the “Maternity Care Best Practice Award” for 2015. This recognition indicates a facility’s commitment to best practices by choosing to not distribute infant formula or formula company-sponsored sample packs.
