OSU COMPREHENSIVE EPILEPSY PROGRAM NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED

The Comprehensive Epilepsy Program at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center was recognized as a level four center by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC). Level four epilepsy centers have the professional expertise and facilities to provide the highest-level medical and surgical evaluation and treatment for patients with complex epilepsy. The distinction will be listed on the NEAC website, and sent to US News and World Report for the “Best Hospitals” analysis. The NAEC Board continues to evaluate the criteria used in its center accuracy of the data submitted by member centers. The designation of level 3 or 4 specialized epilepsy centers reflects the expertise of personnel and comprehensive and multi-described in the NAEC Guidelines.


WEXNER MEDICAL CENTER NURSE HONORED AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION PULSE AWARD

Traci Mignery, MS, RN, NEA-BC, associate chief nursing officer at Ohio State’s Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital was presented with the 2014 Ignite Pulse of Columbus Award from the American Heart Association (AHA). This award is given to one individual from each central Ohio hospital who demonstrates exemplary commitment to the mission of AHA. Traci began her career at Ohio State as a staff nurse in the Cardiothoracic Stepdown Unit in 1988 and later became a staff and training development coordinator and nurse manager for four separate patient care units in the Ross Heart Hospital. Under her leadership, Ohio State earned its first Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. Traci also helped establish “Wellness Wednesdays” in the Ross Heart Hospital, which gives patients and visitors free blood pressure monitoring, blood sugar testing and BMI calculating.

 

KOWALCZYK AWARDED LIFE MEMBER STATUS BY WORLD’S LARGEST RADIOLOGIC SCIENCE ORGANIZATION

Nina Kowalczyk, organizational effectiveness consultant at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and assistant clinical professor of radiologic sciences and therapy, was awarded Life Member status by The American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT). Kowalczyk is one of 25 members to be elevated to Life Member status since the organization’s inception in 1938. Life Members are active ASRT members who have maintained continuous membership for at least 30 years and have participated in a range of volunteer activities that demonstrate dedication to the ASRT and the radiologic technology profession. Kowalczyk will receive this award at the Honors Evening Reception during the ASRT Annual Governance and House of Delegates Meeting on June 27.  The American Society of Radiologic Technologists aims to advance and elevate the medical imaging and radiation therapy profession and to enhance the quality and safety of patient care.
