COLUMBUS, Ohio – Media are invited to attend a ceremony in which Shiloh, one of the Buckeye Paws founding therapy dogs at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, will be promoted to the military rank of Captain.
The ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Ross Heart Hospital Auditorium, 452 W. 10th Avenue.
In January 2022, Buckeye Paws therapy dogs attended the promotion of Greg Geisler from First Lieutenant to Captain of the 178th Medical Group, 178th Wing, Springfield-Beckley MAP in Springfield, Ohio, on the helipad of the Wexner Medical Center.
During the promotion ceremony, Captain Geisler bestowed his First Lieutenant patches to Shiloh and Hudson of the Buckeye Paws team.
Throughout Buckeye Paws interactions and continued support of staff, Captain Geisler and Lt. Colonel Cassidy Devins, Commander, 121st Medical Detachment 1, Rickenbacker ANGB in Columbus. requested to hold a ceremony honorably promoting Shiloh to Captain.
Shiloh will be accompanied by his owner and handler, Mary Justice, chief administrative officer with Ohio State’s College of Nursing. Shiloh often visits Devins, who is as assistant nurse manager on 8th Floor Infusion at James Outpatient Care on west campus.
During the ceremony, the Wexner Medical Center and College of Medicine will honor our veterans ahead of the Veteran’s Day holiday on Nov. 11.
