OHIO STATE WEXNER MEDICAL CENTER NAMED ONE OF MOST-TRUSTED HEALTH SYSTEM BRANDS
The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is among the top-five most-trusted health system brands in the United States, according to research released by branding agency Monigle. In partnership with the American Hospital Association and Society for Health Care Strategy and Market Development, Monigle surveyed 30,138 respondents who were the healthcare decision-makers for their household. Respondents were asked to complete the statement "is an organization that people trust." The other four most-trusted health systems are Johns Hopkins Medicine in Baltimore; UNC Health in Chapel Hill, North Carolina; Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston; and Nebraska Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska.
DR. HARTER NAMED VICE PRESIDENT OF THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OF ANESTHESIOLOGISTS
Anesthesiologist Dr. Ronald L. Harter was named first vice president of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) at its annual meeting in San Diego in October. The ASA is the nation’s largest organization of physician anesthesiologists with more than 54,000 members throughout the country. Harter is the Jay J. Jacoby professor and chair of the Department of Anesthesiology at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, and a practicing physician anesthesiologist at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. He has served in numerous ASA roles over the past 30 years, most recently as speaker of the ASA House of Delegates.
VIZIENT’S PHARMACY VISION AWARDS HONORS OHIO STATE’S PHARMACY ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR
Crystal Tubbs, associate director in the Department of Pharmacy at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and College of Medicine, has received the John Kim Strategic Sourcing Award in the inaugural year for Vizient’s Pharmacy Vision awards. Tubbs was recognized for her excellence in pharmacy sourcing and substantial contributions to the health care industry, including her commitment to the COVID-19 vaccine efforts.
OHIO STATE SURGEON IS NEW PRESIDENT-ELECT OF THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF SURGEONS
Esteemed general surgeon Dr. E. Christopher Ellison has been elected to serve as the 2021–2022 President-Elect of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). His election came at the conclusion of the virtual ACS Clinical Congress 2021 in October. He will be installed for a one-year term as ACS President in October 2022 during the Convocation ceremony at the next ACS Clinical Congress. Ellison is the Robert M. Zollinger Professor of Surgery Emeritus at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. The ACS is a scientific and educational association of surgeons founded in 1913 to improve the quality of care for the surgical patient by setting high standards for surgical education and practice.
DORIS DUKE CHARITABLE FOUNDATION GRANT SUPPORTS EQUITY IN BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH
The Doris Duke Charitable Foundation – in concert with the American Heart Association, the Burroughs Wellcome Fund, the John Templeton Foundation, the Rita Allen Foundation and the Walder Foundation – has awarded The Ohio State University College of Medicine a $550,000 grant through its COVID-19 Fund to Retain Clinical Scientists. The grant will support the strengthening of policies, practices and processes at U.S. medical schools to advance the research productivity and retention of early-career faculty experiencing mushrooming family caregiving responsibilities due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Ohio State College of Medicine is one of 22 medical schools receiving $12.1 million in grants.
MAYERSON ELECTED TO LEADERSHIP POSITION FOR NATIONAL ORTHOPAEDIC SURGEONS BOARD
Dr. Joel Mayerson, professor in the Department of Orthopaedics in The Ohio State University College of Medicine, was recently elected as secretary of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons' (AAOS) Board of Councilors (BOC). The BOC manages AAOS relations with state and regional orthopaedic societies across the United States, conducting a wide range of programs to strengthen and support them organizationally. Mayerson’s role as secretary will progress to chair over three years. In addition, he was elected to serve on the AAOS Board of Directors for a three-year term beginning in March 2022.
DONNEYOUNG ELECTED TO AMERICAN COLLEGE OF EPIDEMIOLOGY BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Macarius Donneyong, assistant professor of Outcomes and Translational Sciences in The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy, has been elected to the American College of Epidemiology (ACE) board of directors. Donneyong will play a critical leadership role in advancing the mission and vision of ACE – educating and advocating for epidemiologists in their efforts to promote good science and public health.
