COLUMBUS, Ohio – The public and media representatives are invited to attend a community meeting at East High School on Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 6 p.m. to learn updates on projects that are important to the Near East Side.

The discussion, led by The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and several Near East neighborhood groups, will include a progress report and next steps on the Hayes Henderson House, the Healthy Community Center and other initiatives.

In May, the medical center and Near East Side advisory committee members announced a decision to preserve the Hayes Henderson House, a 19th century home that sits on Ohio State-owned property at Taylor Avenue and Atchison Street.

Wednesday’s meeting serves as an opportunity for the broader community to learn about potential uses for the house and to offer feedback on priorities.

Attendees will also hear about community-centered programs being planned at Ohio State’s Healthy Community Center, located at 1600 E. Long St. Once the former Martin Luther King Jr. branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library, the site is under renovation and will open early next year.
