Audiologists from Ohio State’s Ear, Nose and Throat Division will test hearing at Columbus, Dublin and Gahanna locations. Hearing screenings are open to the public and registration is not required.
About 15 million adults have some trouble hearing according to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders. The risk of hearing loss increases with age and happens slowly over time. Left untreated, hearing loss can affect the ability to understand speech and may lead to depression and isolation.
Hearing loss symptoms include:
- Suddenly having to turn up the volume of the television or radio and having other family members complain that the volume is too loud.
- Difficulty understanding people speaking to you and asking people to repeat themselves.
- Difficulty with phone conversations and understanding the other person.
- Decreased ability to hear household sounds like alarms or doorbells.
- People telling you that you speak too loudly.
- Ringing in the ears.
Free screenings are available at:
Media representatives are asked to call Medical Center Media Relations at 614-293-3737 to cover these events.
