COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State University Medical Center’s Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital received Chest Pain Center Accreditation this month from the Society of Chest Pain Centers, an international organization dedicated to eliminating heart disease as the number one cause of death worldwide.
Hospitals with this accreditation have achieved a high level of expertise in helping patients who arrive with symptoms of a heart attack. Accredited hospitals emphasize the importance of standardized diagnostic and treatment programs that provide more efficient and effective evaluation, and more appropriate and rapid treatment for patients with chest pain and other heart attack symptoms. Ohio State’s Ross Heart Hospital also demonstrated its ability to evaluate and treat other medical problems and promote healthier lifestyles to reduce risk factors for heart attacks.
In achieving the Accredited Chest Pain Center designation, the Ross Heart Hospital has been recognized for proficiency in reducing the time from onset of symptoms to diagnosis and treatment, quickly treating patients during the critical window of time when the integrity of the heart muscle can be preserved, and developing an effective process for monitoring patients when determining whether or not they are having a heart attack.
