COLUMBUS, Ohio – After an extensive national search, Sarah Sherer has been selected as the next senior associate vice president and chief human resources officer for The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Sherer will begin her new role Jan. 3, 2023.
“We’re honored to welcome Sarah to our Buckeye family, as she brings more than 20 years of human resources experience and values a people-first approach,” said Jay Anderson, interim co-leader and chief operating officer of Ohio State Wexner Medical Center. “Sarah has a strong focus on employee engagement and understands the impact that a strong organizational culture can have on both retention and recruitment.”
Sherer currently serves as the chief human resources officer for University of Utah Health, Hospitals & Clinics (U of U Health), a top academic medical center located in Salt Lake City. In her role, she is responsible for leading all aspects of the organization’s HR efforts impacting more than 14,000 employees and serving a key role in managing their response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Sherer’s people-first focus has helped fuel rapid growth at U of U Health, while maintaining consistent Top 10 rankings by Vizient, Inc., a national membership organization that awards honors to hospitals that consistently provide efficient, patient-centered health care that’s safe and effective.
Sherer earned a Bachelor of Science degree in human resources management from Westminster College and a Master of Science degree in human resources management from Southern New Hampshire University. A frequent presenter on HR-related topics, she also holds a Senior Professional in HR certification. Sherer is passionate about serving her community through volunteerism, including work with the Utah Food Bank battling food insecurity, and serving on the Board of Trustees for Sugarhouse Park.
Sherer, who currently resides in Salt Lake City with her husband and daughter, is planning a relocation to the Columbus area in the coming months. She has personal connections to Ohio with family living around the Buckeye state, and her husband is a graduate of The Ohio State University.
