The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center has been approved for the American Stroke Association’s Get With the Guidelines – Stroke Gold Plus award. The award recognizes Ohio State’s Wexner Medical Center’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of stroke care by ensuring that stroke patients receive treatment according to nationally accepted standards and recommendations. To receive this award, the Ohio State’s Wexner Medical Center achieved an 85 percent or higher adherence to all Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Quality Achievement indicators for two or more consecutive 12-month intervals and achieved 75 percent or higher compliance with six of 10 Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Quality Measures, which are reporting initiatives to measure quality of care. In addition to the Get With The Guideline-Stroke award, Ohio State’s Wexner Medical Center has also been recognized as a recipient of the American Stroke Association’s Target: Stroke Honor Roll, for improving stroke care.

 

OSU Behavioral Health’s Partial Hospital Program manager, Myles Stickle, has been elected president of the Ohio Ambulatory Behavioral Healthcare Association (OABHA). Stickle began his term on September 12, and is the official state of Ohio representative to the national Association for Ambulatory Behavioral Healthcare. Stickle is responsible for carrying out the mission of OABHA, which is “to provide education, support and advocacy to partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs in Ohio”. Stickle was elected because of his great leadership ability as shown through his active involvement in the state and national organization, and for what he has accomplished at Ohio State. 

 

Michel Torbey, medical director of the neurovascular stroke center, is one of the editors for Cambridge University’s second edition of “The Stroke Book”. “The Stroke Book” is a concise and practical reference for anyone involved in managing critically ill cerebrovascular patients for busy medical professionals that need quick answers. The book provides focused protocols for assessing and treating stroke patients in the emergency room, intensive care unit or general hospital setting. “The Stroke Book” was also edited by Magdy Selim, Department of Neurology, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston.
