Ohio State is nationally ranked in eight medical specialties and is No. 2 in Ohio after Cleveland Clinic.
This is the 32nd year in a row that Ohio State has received national recognition for providing safe, high-quality health care.
“Ohio State has a long legacy of excellence in quality, safety and patient experience, and that’s made possible because of the expertise, dedication and compassion of our faculty and staff,” said John J. Warner, MD, chief executive officer of Ohio State Wexner Medical Center and executive vice president at Ohio State. “These results demonstrate our commitment to offer breakthrough health care solutions that transform people’s lives and the communities in which we live.”
U.S. News & World Report evaluates more than 4,500 eligible hospitals, but only the top hospitals are nationally ranked by specialty. Ohio State’s ranked specialties are:
- Cancer
- Cardiology, heart and vascular surgery
- Ear, nose and throat
- Neurology and neurosurgery
- Obstetrics and gynecology
- Pulmonology and lung surgery
- Rehabilitation
- Urology
Ohio State is also rated high performing in diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery, geriatrics and orthopedics – which places these specialties in the top 10% of all hospitals included in the report.
“As an academic medical center, Ohio State’s faculty, researchers and learners are working side-by-side to ensure patients receive innovative care while training the health care workforce of tomorrow,” said Carol R. Bradford, MD, dean of The Ohio State University College of Medicine. “This bench-to-bedside approach to care is evident in our exceptional patient health outcomes.”
U.S. News & World Report also looks at how well hospitals treat common illnesses. It rated Ohio State high performing in 13 out of 20 procedures and conditions. Hospitals that earned a high-performing rating were significantly better than the national average. Those high performing procedures and conditions are:
