About: Dr. Bridge is an epidemiologist and principal investigator in the Center for Innovation in Pediatric Practice at The Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and professor of Pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. He earned a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Pittsburgh.
General Research: Dr. Bridge’s primary research interests involve vulnerability factors of adolescent suicidal behavior, benefits and risks of pediatric psychotropic medication use and research aimed at improving the identification, emergency management and follow-up care of youth at risk for suicide.
Research/Clinical Interests: Epidemiology of suicidal behavior, neurocognitive vulnerability to suicidal behavior and health care for suicidal youth and adolescents.
Current Research Projects:
- A study to determine how impulsive aggression and neurocognitive functioning contribute to a theoretical model of future suicidal behavior in adolescents with major depressive disorder.
- A diversity supplement to expand Dr. Arielle Sheftall’s knowledge of familial risk factors associated with adolescent suicidal behavior with a primary focus on parental neurocognitive functioning and impulsive aggression.
- A three-site linked study to identify those neurocognitive deficits that are affected by developmental changes and those that are constant across the life span, and to evaluate their contribution to the classification of past attempters over and above other clinical risk factors.
- A study to test the acceptability and feasibility of Intensive Crisis Intervention (ICI) for adolescents experiencing suicidal ideation and/or suicidal behavior.
Active Funding: National Institute of Mental Health/NIH, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).
