This pandemic is helping us redefine the term “caring.” We are progressing to a common understanding that at times it’s necessary to place others’ well-being above our own well-being. While this isn’t a new concept, it is one that’s growing in both scope and impact. It’s a time when, for example, sometimes it’s necessary to place caring ahead of indiscriminate “factual honesty”—we are no longer under the guise of “perfect honesty.” In fact, being too honest gets in the way of what’s really important: caring for others! It’s important to ask yourself, “what’s the best and most caring thing I can do?” When we act on this viewpoint, our next steps become clear.
