Patients and visitors

  • Face masks are optional for all patients and visitors unless you have upper respiratory symptoms (e.g., cough, sore throat, fever)
  • Masks are available at entrances to ensure easy access

Faculty, staff, learners, contractors and vendors

  • Face masks are optional in all inpatient and outpatient (ambulatory) care buildings. Exceptions:
    • A patient requests their care provider to wear a mask
    • Certain outpatient care locations where high-risk patients are seen
    • For certain types of isolations that require a mask to be worn (etc. droplet, airborne)
  • Face masks can be required to be worn by certain patient care units with a high number of immune-compromised patients, including:
    • James Cancer Hospital: Floors C14, C15A and C15 East
    • Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital: 4th floor, Heart and lung transplant patients only
  • Anyone at high risk for developing an infection or with symptoms of an infection (e.g. cough, sore throat, fever) should continue masking
