About Me
Over my 22-year career in the US Army, I learned to be a leader while gaining empathy for our wounded warriors as they live with devastating injuries to their feet and ankles. Caring for these soldiers was an honor and it prepared me for my career at the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center.
I’m an orthopedic foot and ankle surgeon specializing in sports medicine and arthroscopic procedures. I’m passionate about caring for patients and developing necessary procedures because lower extremity injuries can be very disabling and painful. I strive to be a good listener first, understanding my patients’ expectations and goals.
As a prior farm kid, I greatly appreciated the opportunities given to me that allowed me to study medicine. In order to pay it forward, I’m an active mentor for residents and medical students, and give them opportunities to get involved in research and clinical activities. I have helped develop orthopedics surgical simulation training in order to improve patient safety while providing residents a safe, protected environment to grow and develop. Mentorship is paramount—balancing our faith, family, friends and a career can be difficult, but having a mentor makes it much easier.
Being an associate professor at The Ohio State University means I’m on the cutting edge of medicine—publishing research, learning new techniques and educating other surgeons as an associate master instructor of arthroscopy. My research is all directed at improving my patients’ outcomes. I have published several new surgical techniques, and have worked to improve assistive devices (crutches) and the transition to a hands-free crutch. I’m also developing a dynamic foot and ankle research consortium to further enhance patient care.
In my free time, I enjoy continuing to serve in the Army Reserve as well as four-wheeling, camping and fishing with my family and friends.

Friendly. Efficient. Listens.
Felt like Dr. Martin really had a lot of experience dealing with my type of injury. It was great that he explained how often he had repaired broken ankles. He looked to be in excellent physical shape which gave me confidence in his physical abilities and in his desire to help me create the best possible outcome for my well-being to help me regain my strength.
Was able to confirm what I had suspected was wrong with my ankle and provided practical solutions to functional deficits.
Good
Explaining to me about cleaning my privates
Good
After a very brief bumpy introduction, I was thoroughly pleased with this provider
Listened to any concerns I had. Gave easy to understand instructions and answers.
Dr. Martin is an excellent doctor who is friendly and communicates well
Very nice. Wish wait time can be shorter.
Kevin Martin was not helpful, he did not go over my x-ray - he didn't give me any help nor did he tell me anything I didn't already know. I came in due to a damage Achilles (possible torn) this is why my primary Dr. sent me to get some treatment which I didn't received. I ended up later date actually going to the E.R. 5 days later. I was in pain and more damage to my Achilles.
Everyone was so kind and so helpful.
Dr. Martin has been amazing through my whole surgery process. This was my 1 year checkup, when I previously met with Dr. Martin I was in extreme pain walking and was mentally in a bad place thinking I was going to live my life in constant pain and walk with a permanent limp. He told me our goal was to get me at least 50% less pain. At this time I was happy with that expectation and couldn't wait for the surgery. After surgery I was immediately in at least 80% less pain that I had been in for the past 2 years and less than I was from previous surgery 10 months prior to Dr. Martin doing this revision surgery. Within 3 months of this surgery I was and still to this day 100% pain free and walk without any limp. I can walk, run, jump and enjoy daily living completely pain free. Dr. Martin exceeded any expectations I had for this surgery. Going to OSU and choosing Dr. Martin was by far the best decision I have made.
Doctor was very easygoing yet professional and thorough, awesome experience and would recommend
Dr Martin evaluated my full foot and ankle and provided an overall strategy for my issues beyond the two broken bones.
It wasn't bad, just didn't care for the prognosis
Excellent
Clean cut, well groomed. Attentive & to the point. Great communication skills & explained everything well.
Care provider was very friendly and knowledgeable
Very personable. Explained things well.
Dr. Martin is professional and extremely knowledgeable. I wish I had seen him sooner.
I was impressed by how personable and attentive Dr. Martin was. He was very straight forward and answered all our questions.
Even though I have been experiencing multiple issues with my feet, it seemed like the provider only wanted to focus on one. I wasn't given the opportunity to talk about the other problems, and it almost seemed like the provider was a bit dismissive when he told me that he didn't think that there was much he could do for me other than set me up for physical therapy. I felt like the provider didn't want to be bothered and that the appointment seemed rushed.
Very good.
Great Doctor. Good follow through.
Very good care

Dr. Martin was great, listened to my concerns about my injury and what I had been doing to treat myself. Very friendly throughout visit.
Very courteous, timely, and answered all questions with good explanations. Not rushed
Good eye contact. Good listener. Addressed concern and explained what he would do so I could understand.
Dr.Martin and Dr. Pettit we're great! Both were knowledgeable of my issue and showed concern for me and my problem
I was in good hands
I have been really impressed with all of the staff at The Jameson Crane! Especially Dr. Martin and Julia Swain. They have been excellent in caring for my needs and making sure I recvover well from my surgery
Good
Knowledge, friendly, understanding
Very good
Dr. Martin cares about patient and explains things well too family.
He was terrific. For first visit he was welcoming and clearly wanted to ease my pain. Great explanation and I truly enjoyed meeting him.
Excellent experience, nothing bad at all
Excellent doctor and medical professionals. Best doctor I have ever been in contact with.
Doctor was easy to talk to.
Dr. Martin is an excellent doc & surgeon. He treated me for a minor injury & was so kind - I fell down stairs. He also operated on my husbands broken ankle in 2021 & did a phenomenal job.
Excellent listening skills, concern, clearly explained prognosis, not rushed, provided suggestions/options for treatment, invited my questions and patiently answered them. Thank you
The dude knows his stuff. Will rush it if you have no questions - we did & he took the time to answer everything.
Dr. Martin and his staff were friendly, courteous professional and thorough - I had not met nor known of Dr Martin previously, but I will heartily recommend him to my family and friends.
Dr Martin is always attentive and listens to concerns or questions and answers any questions thoroughly. Provides a brief plan of action & setting expectations.
Explained everything very well
Explained why I would have to wear boot for another 4 weeks.
Everything was perfect. Process, care & exam.
I can not say enough good things about the care I received.
I am so pleased with the care and concern I received from Dr. Martin, this was a 2nd opinion appointment and he was so caring and understanding to my pain concerns and feelings of frustration from other surgeon. He took time to hear me out and truly understood where I was physically and mentally with my foot. He explained everything to me in his care plan and made sure I knew the risks.
He made me feel comfortable
He was kind, knowledgeable, and respectful of my care
Everything met or exceeded my expectations. I came to see Dr. Kevin Martin after experiencing a comminuted fracture of my left calcanealus & severe ankle sprain and other damage due to a fall down stairs. I was not satisfied with the care provided by my initial provider. Dr. Martin did a thorough exam and provided answers I was looking for. He set up a recovery plan and follow up treatment/physical therapy which I started immediately - I am very comfortable and satisfied with the care I received from Dr. Martin and staff. I will continue my recovery with them.
Very high degree of knowledge regarding my concerns and my goal of avoiding surgery
Very good.
The doctor listened, understood the problem and had a plan. Made me feel comfortable with the decision
I wish the doctor had been more realistic about resting in the days right after my injury. I over-extended myself. Also I wish he had suggested a temporary disability parking option, esp. since we both work at OSU and he would likely know the process.
Meeting Dr.Martin was the best experience i've had at a medical Center. He was very professional and made sure I understood all of my problems I have been having regarding my bad foot surgery I had at another medical center, giving me information and options for fixing my pain. I am glad I chose Dr.Martin and am feeling very positive about my upcoming surgery with him. He made me feel very comfortable and confident about my surgery choice.
He listened
Appeared to be paying good attention to what my concerns are and provided me with appropriate advice.
Resident and doctor were fantastic. Resident did a very good job giving me information I did not want to hear. He was patient, kind and accurate. When doctor Martin came in the room he seemed prepared with the previous discussion and reinforced the need for surgery, expectations before and after, and helped me and my mom feel very confident moving forward.
He was very nice also. Took the time to listen carefully, asked questions to understand what the issue was. Gave me options and helped me choose what treatment option would work best for me. Easy to communicate with.
