After serving as interim CEO of the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute since July 2022, David Cohn, MD, MBA, has been named chief operating officer of The James. 

As COO, Dr. Cohn reports directly to the CEO of the OSUCCC – James, serving as a key collaborator with clinical, scientific and administrative leaders across the cancer program and the entire Wexner Medical Center in planning, executing and leading a broad range of operational functions. He’s responsible for leading and partnering with teams to ensure highly reliable, high-quality and safe care at The James and focuses on the delivery of exceptional patient care through evidence-based practices and innovative cancer treatments.

Dr. Cohn is tasked with executing a strategy that expands the reach and influence of The James in local, regional and national markets by expanding patient access, and he leads efforts to continuously improve patient experience, manage patient flow and care coordination and develop strategic partnerships to ensure consistent delivery of world-class cancer care.

Dr. Cohn joined the medical faculty at The James in 2001. He holds the Stuart M. Sloan – Larry J. Copeland, MD, Chair in Gynecologic Oncology and is a professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Division of Gynecologic Oncology, at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. He has served as chief medical officer at The James since 2018. His clinical practice includes both medical and surgical treatment of gynecologic cancers, and he’s been widely recognized by his peers for his excellence in clinical practice and teaching. 

His research focuses on identifying biomarkers for early detection and prevention of ovarian cancer, as well as on the genetics of endometrial cancer, and he’s published nearly 300 manuscripts in scientific journals and holds two patents. Additionally, he has served as co-chair of the National Cancer Institute NRG Oncology Cancer Care Delivery Committee and as president of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology.

His extensive experience and dedication to excellence – both as interim CEO and in his role as Chief Medical Officer at The James – have been vital in maintaining the high standards of cancer care and innovation that our cancer program is known for, and his leadership has been pivotal in ensuring that Ohio State remains at the forefront of cancer treatment and research, providing exceptional care to our patients and in our continuous pursuit of a cancer-free world.
