Biography
I chose to become a physician because I’m passionate about helping people improve their health and their quality of life. As a gastroenterologist, I specialize in treating disorders of the digestive track, as well as performing upper and lower endoscopies including those for colon cancer screenings.
My patients can rely on me as a partner in their health care journey. I take the time to listen to each patient’s concerns and empower them to take an active role in their GI care.
I chose to remain in academic medicine because it allows me to pursue two passions: helping patients improve their health and educating the next generation of physicians. It’s a privilege to be back at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and have the opportunity to mentor medical students, residents and fellows.
When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my family and playing with my dog. I also like hiking and traveling.

Consulting and related relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 11/3/2025, Alexander Hooper has reported no relationships with companies or entities.

This was the first time meeting this doctor!! Doctor Alexander is very nice and professional and very attentive and friendly!!
The doctor was awesome he was very much willing to help me and listened to what I was saying about my stomach issues he was very understanding....
Positives
My care provider is especially easy to talk to. He listens to my questions and knows or finds answers to my questions. He is especially knowledgeable about my gastrointestinal problems and found an unusual medication that helps control my symptoms. He is open to me contacting him on My Chart and responds promptly. Though he is booked up for months, he makes me feel like I can contact him with a question or problem any time. He discusses potential tests to be done and takes my opinion into consideration. He is kind and makes me feel like I matter.
Answered all my questions and moer.
I really like Dr.Hopper and know that he is trying the very best to figure out my condition.
Answered all my questions
amazing knew what he was talking about and got right to the problem and hopefully solutions to solve it
Dr. Hooper is my 3rd Gastroenterologist since my diagnosis in 1986, the previous doctors treated me until they retired from practice. Although I have much respect for them, Dr. Hooper by far is the best of the three looking back 40 years and I'm very thankful that I have the opportunity to be under his care! Thank you Dr. Hooper and The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center!
This was my first visit and I was beyond pleased with the provider and care he provided
Rally took time to discuss medical issues and past procedures
He didn't have my medical history nor really took into consideration what I stated I have gone through already with other doctors over the last year. I feel like I'm starting the process all over again with a new doctor and getting help will take forever. I'm trying to stay hopeful though.
Listen to what I had to say
He was very, very good.
Initial visit - absolutely great
