Biography

I chose to become a physician because I’m passionate about helping people improve their health and their quality of life. As a gastroenterologist, I specialize in treating disorders of the digestive track, as well as performing upper and lower endoscopies including those for colon cancer screenings.

My patients can rely on me as a partner in their health care journey. I take the time to listen to each patient’s concerns and empower them to take an active role in their GI care.

I chose to remain in academic medicine because it allows me to pursue two passions: helping patients improve their health and educating the next generation of physicians. It’s a privilege to be back at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and have the opportunity to mentor medical students, residents and fellows.

When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my family and playing with my dog. I also like hiking and traveling.

My care provider is especially easy to talk to. He listens to my questions and knows or finds answers to my questions. He is especially knowledgeable about my gastrointestinal problems and found an unusual medication that helps control my symptoms. He is open to me contacting him on My Chart and responds promptly. Though he is booked up for months, he makes me feel like I can contact him with a question or problem any time. He discusses potential tests to be done and takes my opinion into consideration. He is kind and makes me feel like I matter.

Consulting and related relationships

At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.

As of 11/3/2025, Alexander Hooper has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
