About Me
My ophthalmology specialty includes treatment of cataracts, ocular hypertension (pressure in eyes) and all forms of glaucoma.
I decided to become a doctor after working for an ophthalmologist during college. I enjoyed it and found it very rewarding. That's when I knew medicine would be a good field for me.
After my glaucoma fellowship, I chose Ohio State to be involved in medical education. I greatly valued my education here during medical school and as a resident, and wanted to give back.
My responsibilities include staffing the resident glaucoma surgeries and the residents who see our patients with glaucoma. I've truly enjoyed that.
Ohio State's Havener Eye Institute is a wonderful place to work. Our outstanding staff are friendly and excellent to work with. I enjoy working together with all of the other subspecialties. Our goal is to work as a team so our patients benefit from diverse expertise.
The greatest sense of accomplishment in my day is the ability to help slow or stop the progression of glaucoma. Sometimes it means coaching patients on how to take their medications and other times it involves helping them through surgery. I find my work very rewarding.

At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. Dr sawchyn, is a what a physician should be. She makes you feel at ease at every visit. Explains everything for you during visit. And actually takes the time to just talk ,if needed.Actually calmly sits there and listens,and answers questions , without acting like needing to rush off. In short,instead of driving 20 minutes,I drive 2 hours to be seen by someone with care and has done so much for me care wise.

Dr Sawchyn scheduled this appointment to capture some images and also to re-test something that showed up in an earlier test a few months prior. She wanted to make sure the previous test result was not an anomaly. Sure enough this followup test was normal. I appreciate her diligence in making sure to gather accurate results.
