About Me

As a dermatologist, I specialize in psoriasis and complex medical dermatology. I am also the director of many clinical trials and lead our dermatology research fellowship. My passion for medicine is fueled through the pursuit and discovery of new treatments so that I may provide the best available options to successfully treat my patients.

I truly believe in providing my patients with the highest quality care and I am honored to be trusted to help care for them. It is fulfilling to be able to use my expertise to develop individualized care for people of all ages with various needs. I co-direct the dermatology-rheumatology psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis clinic and I also lead a complex medical dermatology clinic. I care for many autoimmune diseases including psoriasis, blistering disorders, hidradenitis, lichen planus, lupus, dermatomyositis, granuloma annulare and many others. Additionally, I also care for all general dermatology conditions (acne, skin checks, skin cancers, and rashes) in my general dermatology clinics.
I am also passionate about education and serve as the Vice Chair of Education in Dermatology as well as the Division Director of Medical Dermatology. I enjoy teaching and mentoring many medical students and residents each year.

One of the things I enjoy most about working here at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is the opportunity to work with physicians of all different specialties. Ohio State is very unique in that it allows me to combine educational aspects with my work and expanding progress as a physician.

I’m originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but I have found a new home here in Columbus and at Ohio State. In my free time I love spending time with my family as well as traveling, being outdoors, and reading.

Jessica saved my life. I suffer from white coat hypertension. She suggested that I monitor my blood pressure at home. This was the best medical advice I have received. My blood pressure averages 105/70. However, it is much higher when I see a doctor or dentist. One doctor wanted me to take blood pressure medicine and cholesterol medicine due to lower my blood pressure. My cholesterol averages 180. Taking blood pressure medication would have lowered my blood pressure levels and possible caused me to lose consciousness. If this occurred while I was driving, I could have died in a car accident and killed others. Now, I present all my doctors with my blood pressure record. I measure my blood pressure about twice a week on average. They no longer try to get me to take blood pressure medication or refuse to treat me. My dentist has started recommending to her patients that they monitor their blood pressure from home. This may result in more lives saved. In short, but suggesting that I monitor by blood pressure at home to address white coat hypertension, Jessica likely saved many lives.

This was my first time seeing Dr. Kaffenberger for my annual skin check. My previous doctor moved to another clinic within the OSU system and only sees patients with specific conditions (that I don't have). I knew this ahead of time but Dr. K very considerately explained to me why I was seeing her and not my previous doctor, which I appreciated. She did address a couple minor concerns that I had. She was faster to check me than my previous doc, which made me wonder if she was as thorough, but it is also possible she has been doing this longer and is just faster at it. Overall a good experience and I will be happy to see her again in a year.
