About Me
Our hands are fundamental to nearly everything we do. As a hand and upper extremity surgeon at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, I am passionate about helping patients regain function and resume normal activities as quickly as possible.
When a patient comes to see me, they can trust I will take the time to get to know them and ask about their goals. This helps me understand their needs and create a customized treatment plan. I care for patients who have suffered hand and upper extremity fractures and other traumas. I treat arthritis, nerve compression issues such as carpal tunnel syndrome and tendonitis, among other conditions.
I have a strong research background that has strengthened my problem-solving abilities. Much of my research has focused on topics including upper extremity trauma, scaphoid nonunion, and flexor tendon injuries. I have been presenting clinical and biomechanical research at prestigious national meetings for many years and have been honored with multiple resident research awards. I am also an American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery Diplomate.
In orthopedics, we are continuously innovating and some of the best treatment options for patients may still be under investigation. Being at The Ohio State University allows me to be at the forefront of those treatments. The physicians and faculty at the Hand and Upper Extremity Center are devoted to the patient experience, cutting-edge research and graduate-level education, and I am proud to be part of such a talented team.
In addition to my clinical work, I am an assistant professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. I enjoy teaching medical students, residents and fellows because they are the next generation of doctors and surgeons.
When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family. I like exploring the outdoors, hiking and running.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. I only had a good experience at my first time visit. She was so nice made sure I understood everything she was saying. I never felt rushed or stupid. She also made sure I felt comfortable with any time off needed or if I needed anything as far as work restrictions. Just went above my expectations for what I would consider a small little procedure. I'm a nurse and my entire encounter was so pleasant with osu. It was refreshing to experience when you don't always see that all the time in healthcare. Never change

Seem very upset about me coming in to see her after describing to her that I felt worst after surgery. This was her question. Before surgery I expressed how much discomfort I was having in my hands and up to my elbow and sometimes even my arm but she said I only told her about my hand.

Dr. Putnam was very knowledgeable and respectful and I felt assured that she and her team had everything under control.
She stated that she didn't know what could be going on and didn't order any imagine of the arm or hand. Wouldn't fully listen on the idea that my problem seems to be 2 different ones with different history although often intertwined. Ordered one test but gave me no indication of what she was thinking or why she didn't order imaging.
Dr. Putnam is professional, concerned and very caring. She did a great job of dealing with my issue and assuring me that I could always contact her if I had any concerns.
