About Me

I’m a musculoskeletal surgical oncologist specializing in the treatment of benign and malignant bone and soft tissue tumors in pediatric and adult patients. In addition, I treat patients with metastatic bone disease and other cancer treatment-related musculoskeletal conditions. I have the unique privilege of working with a diverse and inspiring patient population. Their kindness, compassion and resilience drive me to advance the field in order to improve patient outcomes.

I believe that a patient’s diagnosis doesn’t define who they are; instead, a patient’s goals and lifestyle must play a critical role in developing a treatment approach. Together, we will formulate a treatment strategy that strives to optimize cancer-related outcomes and quality of life.

In regards to research, early on in my medical career I was drawn to research investigating ways to harness the reparative potential of periosteum (outer sleeve around bones) to improve limb-salvage outcomes. Although this area of focus remains, it influenced me to take a broader approach to cancer care and view my practice from a perspective of constantly looking for ways to improve patient outcomes and experience. This has led me down many paths — from research focused on surgical techniques to improve postamputation pain, to the influence of health care policy and treatment strategies on bone cancer outcomes.

I’ve had phenomenal mentors along the way who inspired me to pursue a career in orthopedic oncology. Throughout medical school, residency and fellowship, these mentors demonstrated compassionate, patient-centered care and an endless drive to make advances in the field of sarcoma that I try to emulate today. Most influential in my pursuit, however, has been the countless patients I’ve had the privilege of serving throughout my career; they are without a doubt the best part of my job.

I love working at Ohio State because of the close-knit community that makes it unique and a truly special place that I cherish. Ohio State’s foundation is built upon the surrounding community, which passionately supports our missions as a university, medical center and a world-class cancer center. Community is what makes Ohio State Wexner Medical Center a supportive and fantastic place to work, and makes it possible for us to deliver quality care to our patients. Community among physicians and scientists allows us to continue to advance medicine across and within our respective fields. Finally, the Ohio State patients and their families support each other on their journeys to recovery and health. It is this universal sense of community that defines Ohio State.

When I’m not at work, I’m blessed with an amazing wife and daughter with whom I enjoy biking, swimming and frequenting local ice cream joints. I also enjoy playing ice hockey, soccer, skiing and snowboarding.
