Biography

I serve as the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program director and as the vice chair of Education in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. I specialize in conditions affecting the upper extremity, from the fingertips to the mid-upper arm. My training in orthopedic surgery, fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery, and broad clinical experience let me treat nearly all pathologies in this region, including arthritis, fractures, tendon, ligament, and nerve injuries and chronic deformities. I also have a particular interest in complex elbow trauma and reconstruction as well as paralysis and spasticity after brain or spinal cord injuries.

I chose a career in medicine because I wanted to make a tangible difference in people’s lives by helping them overcome their health challenges. I have always enjoyed math and science, and as an undergraduate student I chose to study biomedical engineering – focusing on biomechanics – to combine those interests with my desire to advance medical care. That background not only prepared me for medical school but also shaped the way I think about solving clinical problems. During medical school, I found all disciplines fascinating, but orthopedic surgery stood out. It felt intuitive, likely because of my engineering training, and offered the opportunity to restore function and improve quality of life in a concrete, visible way.

I have spent my entire career in academic medicine. My residency and fellowship training were completed at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, an environment that fostered my interest in education, research and complex patient care. After completing my training, I joined the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center to begin my academic orthopedic surgery practice.
