About Me
I am an otolaryngologist who specializes in treating tumors and cancers of the head and neck, with a particular focus on tumors of the skull base and sinonasal cavity. The sinonasal cavity is home to a more diverse and biologically distinct set of malignancies than virtually anywhere else in the body. While it is a relatively small area, it involves highly complex anatomy and requires a comprehensive understanding of highly variable pathologies. The surgical techniques required to treat these malignancies are highly specialized, and I have dedicated my training and career to master these concepts.
Treating head and neck cancers requires a multidisciplinary approach, and The James has an incredible team of dedicated head and neck radiation oncologists, medical oncologists and surgical oncologists who work together to address our patients’ needs. This starts with understanding what the patient wants in their treatment and what their priorities are from a functional, cosmetic and oncologic perspective. I discuss each of my cancer patients at a multidisciplinary tumor board, where we explore conventional and evolving treatment options, research protocols and clinical trials, and other potential approaches to try and develop the best treatment plan for each individual patient.
As a member of the Translational Therapeutics Program at the OSUCCC – James, my research interests include translational applications of 3D printing in medicine, clinical outcomes in skull base malignancies and head and neck cancers, and developing unique, out-of-the-box solutions and devices for patients with difficult problems.
I also serve as an assistant professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at The Ohio State University and as a member of the North American Skull Base Society. Additionally, I am an accomplished author with over 20 articles in such peer-reviewed publications as Annals of Surgical Oncology and Journal of Neurosurgical Sciences.
The culture and community of The James is unlike any place I’ve ever worked. From the support staff to the nurses, residents and physicians, everyone is completely committed to beating cancer. There is an incredible team mentality here at the OSUCCC – James, as we work collaboratively to do whatever it takes to maximize the potential outcomes for each individual patient.
