About Me
The hand is a visual and functional marvel that is crucial for maintaining independence in our day-to-day lives. As a plastic surgeon who specializes in hand and upper extremity surgery, I strive to restore form and function to my patients.
During each patient encounter, I treat everyone with dignity, respect and kindness. In order to understand how I can best partner with my patients and individualize the care I provide, I take the time to get to know each one so that I can better grasp their problem in the context of their daily life. The opportunity to see my patients return to doing the work and activities they love is one of the most rewarding parts of my job.
In addition to treating patients, I enjoy teaching and mentoring the next generation of doctors and surgeons here at The Ohio State University. Our surgeons, fellows and residents offer truly exceptional care to our patients, and it is a privilege to work as a part of this team.
In my free time, I enjoy staying active and being outdoors, playing basketball, baseball and golf, as well as traveling, cooking and spending time with my wonderful family. I also have a passion for global surgery and have participated in surgical mission trips to Kenya, Peru, Nicaragua and Mexico.

Just drove all the way home and they called me to come back to tell me my finger was broke. Saw him for 2 minutes to give me a bandaid to tape 2 fingers together. Very unnecessary! Waste of time.

Doctor and staff understand the problem I was having with my hand.
Very good and knowledgeable about hand anatomy and care!
I've had two prior hand surgeries with Dr.Schmucker, and my husband has had two trigger finger release procedures with Dr. Schumucker. Dr. Schmucher has always been very courteous, caring, professional, easy to talk with and interested in our concerns and what we had to say. He is top-notch in my book, I would be hard-pressed to find another doctor who would top him in both surgical skills and patient care.
Understanding
Very professional, neat, clean appearance, gave me information on trigger finger (the reason for my visit).
The provider was very knowledgeable and really listened to my concerns.
Physician was articulate in explaining the problem/diagnosis and proposed treatment. I was first seen by the resident in training, and the physician set a fine example of interaction with a patient who wanted a good understanding of the problem, treatment, and likely outcome.
