As a primary care doctor at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, I diagnose and treat a wide variety of acute and chronic health conditions. I believe commitment to wellness practices, which include fostering loving relationships, regular exercise, healthy eating, mindfulness practices and play, is the mainstay of healthy living and is crucial to managing illness and injuries.
Patients can rely on me as a collaborative partner as we work to improve their overall health and wellness. Building trusting relationships with patients and their families, and understanding what matters most to them, is especially important to me. The Ohio State University is a family and we work together to help patients and their families lead their best lives. I am proud to be a part of this wonderfully caring and supportive community.
My research is focused on strategies to help patients manage chronic pain, especially with lifestyle choices. I am part of the leadership team for Ohio State’s interdisciplinary chronic pain management service called Pain Rehabilitation and Education: Values and Activities that Improve Life (PRE: VAIL). My current research project involves studying how the interdisciplinary approach to chronic pain management impacts outcomes.
My formative education and training took place in the U.S. Army, where I served as a platoon leader. After medical school at Georgetown, I completed residency at Madigan Army Medical Center. My experience includes serving as chief medical resident, squadron surgeon in Afghanistan, hospitalist, clinic chief, internal medicine clerkship director, and brigade surgeon. The opportunity to help train medics, clinical staff, medical students and/or residents was a rewarding part of each job.
I love that my current role allows me the chance to continue teaching. As a faculty member in the Division of General Internal Medicine, I work with medical students and residents in both clinic and hospital settings. I also serve as a co-facilitator for Longitudinal Group, Ohio State’s 'how to be a doctor' class for first- and second-year medical students.
When I am not working, I love spending time with my wife and kids, especially outdoors.

At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 11/3/2025, Shawn Corcoran has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
All good
Demonstrated great care and empathy for my medical needs.
He is always very friendly and greets us with a smile.
I felt heard and he explained my diagnosis in a way that made sense. He was able to answer my questions about my diagnosis.
All excellent
I'm uncomfortable with doctors. I'm very comfortable with Dr C. My wife has chosen him to be her GP. We're blessed to have him.
Sean is an intelligent and personable physician who cares about the patient and offers several options to address their concerns
Dr Corcoran continues to be exactly the primary care provider I hoped for when I last had to change providers. He is 100% present during appointments, listens closely, asks thoughtful questions, and provides clear relevant answers and follow up information. He is responsive to my values and priorities while also being clear about other ways of thinking. He has helped me diagnose and deal with several health issues, much improving my daily quality of life in large and small ways. He is a good doctor and a good person
All of OSU is fabulous..tremendously positive.
Dr. Corcoran is an outstanding physician and a wonderful human being.
