About Me
As an oculoplastic surgeon at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, I specialize in performing cosmetic and reconstructive procedures. Modern health care includes a true, open dialogue between the provider and patient. My patients can trust that I will tailor treatment plans while considering their quality of life and their future plans.
I am passionate about cosmetic surgery and the judicious use of injectables to help turn back the clock. I provide minimally invasive cosmetic injectables such as Botox and facial fillers, as well as perform surgery to correct droopy eyelids, remove excess eyelid skin and reduce lower lid “bags.” I also treat orbital tumors, tearing conditions like punctal stenosis and nasolacrimal duct obstructions, and eyelid conditions including ptosis, dermatochalasis, ectropion, entropion and skin cancer.
I strongly believe in the benefits of providing multidisciplinary care, which is readily available at The Ohio State University. I appreciate the vast resources available that help us offer the best care possible to our patients. Having spent my entire career thus far in academic institutions, I’m also passionate about mentoring the next generation of physicians. I am an assistant professor of ophthalmology at The Ohio State University College of Medicine.
When I am not working, I love spending time with my family, reading fiction and practicing yoga.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. Excellent in every way
Appeared very knowledgeable. Explained why what I thought I needed was incorrect. She sowed me before and after examples of surgery that would fix my concerns. Matched exactly.
Knowledgeable and kind
I was referred to Dr. Akella when it was evident I had blepharospasms. She immediately did botox which helped very quickly. She also did 4 IPL treatments which have helped - Dr. Akella is most professional, knowledgeable and has been wonderful in my eye care. She answers my chart messages quickly and will address my questions or concerns. My 3 vision physicians at Ohio State have worked very closely in meeting my dry eye/spasms needs.
Dr. Akella seemed very understanding and ready to help me with my issues. She was very open and told me about the procedure and after affects of my surgery. She was very kind.

This was a follow-up visit to surgeries on my sinuses & right eye in which she participated. She was always very encouraging and positive and was that way when I saw her in the office. Very informative and answered our questions.
I was disappointed that the doctor did not examine my eye to verify that everything had healed properly or to check that my vision was all right. I had surgery for a severe eye infection.
