Biography

I specialize in treating patients who have corneal and ocular surface disease and require specialty medical contact lenses. These contact lenses can significantly improve the vision and symptoms of these patients, unlike traditional treatments and glasses. Being diagnosed with an eye condition can be difficult. I walk through all available treatment options with each patient and answer important questions in order to create their care plan. I want the patient to feel invested in their care and know that I'm invested just as much.

In Ohio State's Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, I'm the division director for the optometry division. We use the most up-to-date technology for specialty medical contact lenses. The department has the technology to map the front surface of the eye and take impression molds of the eye to aid in fitting specialty lenses. Ohio State is one of about 80 locations in the US utilizing these technologies.

The community of faculty, staff and students at the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center makes working here very special. Care teams work together to find the best outcome and treatment for each patient. We're constantly evolving to provide the best care and technology to our patients to improve their vision and condition.

When I'm not at work, I enjoy spending time with my family, being outdoors, and building LEGO sets with my son.

Academics and research

I grew up in Toledo, OH and completed my undergraduate education at the University of Toledo. After graduating with a BS in biology, I moved on to Columbus to attend The Ohio State University's College of Optometry, where I was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa honor society and graduated cum laude. I then completed a residency in ocular disease and specialty contact lenses here at the Havener Eye Institute. I enjoy being able to help patients with complex ocular conditions and improve their vision by fitting specialty contact lenses.

I am currently a member of the Ohio Optometric Association (OOA), the American Optometric Association (AOA) and fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO). I am also clinical instructor for ophthalmology residents and optometry students. In 2014, I was awarded the American Optometric Foundation Award of Excellence in Patient Care. I have been invited to speak at national eye conferences including: The American Academy of Optometry, The American Academy of Ophthalmology, and The Global Specialty Lens Symposium.

I am a fellow of the Scleral Lens Education Society (FSLS), a distinction less than 200 optometrists in the United States hold, which demonstrates high level knowledge of managing and evaluation of scleral contact lenses. I am also a certified EyePrint Impression practitioner and a PROSE (Prosthetic Replacement of the Ocular Surface Ecosystem) provider. PROSE treatment is reserved for advanced presentations of ocular disease and there are less than 30 clinicians worldwide with PROSE training.

Excellent, I just wish we could get the lens to see on my eye to seal it so the lens wouldn't get cloudy and they are trying very hard, but we've got to get that accomplished
