Biography
I am a board-certified family physician and diplomate of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. I lead the Lifestyle Medicine Clinic at The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center, where I partner with patients to prevent, treat and even reverse chronic diseases through evidence-based lifestyle changes.
I treat patients to address conditions such as prediabetes, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, arthritis and weight concerns, as well as women’s health across the lifespan, including perimenopause and menopause.
My clinical practice focuses on the six pillars of lifestyle medicine – nutrition, physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, social connection and avoidance of risky substances – to support whole-person health and lasting behavioral change.
In addition to my clinical responsibilities, I am passionate about educating and mentoring the next generation of providers.

Consulting and related relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 11/3/2025, Alison MacKinlay has reported no relationships with companies or entities.

She was great
It was my 1st time to meet Dr. Mackinlay since my former dr. Stopped caring for her patients but she is staying at OSU. Had been with my dr's office for over 30 yrs. Good experience.
Was very happy Dr McKinlay provided strategies that I can use to handle asthma flareups (SMART method with the Breyna inhaler with tracking). Also glad for her support of me trying diet and exercise changes to deal with osteoporosis before medication.
Listen to what my concerns were
Dr Mackinlay is a good doctor and always discusses issues I am presenting to her with well thought out responses. She is willing to work with me to alleviate a symptom or issue.
