About Me
I am a nurse practitioner in the Department of Radiation Oncology, where I specialize in caring for breast cancer patients. My role at the Stefanie Spielman Comprehensive Breast Center is not only the perfect mix of my passions — caring for oncology patients, women’s health and imaging — but it’s also intellectually and emotionally fulfilling, as every day brings new challenges and rewards.
There’s no such thing as routine cancer. I believe that every patient, along with their family and loved ones, should be encouraged to be an active participant in their plan of care and subsequent recovery along with their multidisciplinary treatment teams. Most people fear cancer because it’s an unknown quantity, but at The James, we empower our patients to regain a sense of control through open communication and education while receiving top-notch care. Patients often arrive in my office with a wide range of knowledge, apprehensions and expectations about breast cancer. I try to communicate clearly to reassure them about therapy by sharing the excellent evidence we have from thousands of patients who have taken part in clinical trials with the hope that my patients leave with a better understanding of their condition and treatment plan.
It is a privilege to be a part of the team at the OSUCCC – James and to share a vision of creating a cancer-free world. In addition to my work here, I’m a member of several professional organizations, including the Ohio Nursing Association, Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health and the American Society of Radiologic Technologies, and have been actively involved in Pelotonia as a rider and fundraiser.

Impressed that the doctor read my previous genetic testing information and discussed it with me before I even had to ask. It was noted in my chart that there was a new cancer in my sister in my family history.
Amber has given me the news that I had cancer several years ago.......on this visit she told me I did not......she did both with warmth and compassion......giving me hugs because that is what I needed both times.......she is wonderful and an important part of my care team......

So my nurse listened to me and then relayed everything to the doctor. Amber was spectacular. Never have I had someone take so much time with me. I recently lost my mother and unfortunately she could relate but went above and beyond and was so caring. She listened to me and shared opinions. It was the best visit I have had there. I continued to see Amber even after Dr. Bazan left. I feel Amber gives very thorough exams.
Amber Holbrook has provided excellent care for 3 yrs. during that time she addressed every concern & questions with empathy & expertise. She was the first to notice lymphedema issues beginning to surface. This visit she noted an area during the exam that required follow-up. Which she arranged for that same day, so I did not have to have a worry-filled delay time between visits.
Best at making me feel I was getting well.

The care providers are very caring and knowledgeable. They always answer my questions and I never feel rushed.
Amber was super! She not only shows concern about the radiation follow up, but about my overall care/treatment. We discussed possible further and medication from medical oncology as well. She took her time and was very thorough.
