Academics and research

In addition to my clinical responsibilities, I am passionate about educating and mentoring the next generation of providers. I serve as a clinical instructor in the Department of Surgery at The Ohio State University College of Medicine.

As co-manager of CTRACT, I help lead a multidisciplinary research program focused on bridging mechanistic discovery with clinical care for critically ill surgical patients. Our team integrates laboratory-based investigation with clinical and outcomes research to develop innovative, biology-driven approaches that improve outcomes in trauma care, acute care surgery and surgical critical care.

I'm an NIH-funded surgeron-scientist whose research focuses on the immunologic mechanisms that drive outcomes in surgical patients with obesity and sepsis. My work examines how adipose tissue inflammation and adiopocyte-derived signaling modulate immune function and contribute to sepsis pathophysiology. This translational program spans human tissue analysis, immune phenotyping and clinical data sciende to identify actionable therapeutic targets that can be directly translated to patient care.

I've received independent funding through the National Institutes of Health, including a K08 Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Award, as well as competitive awards from national surgical societies, including the Surgical Infection Society and the Central Surgical Association. My work has been widely published in peer-reviewed journals and has contributed to defining the clinical and mechanistic impact of obesity on outcomes in surgical critical illness.

In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
