About Me

I'm an ophthalmologist, specializing in the cornea and external eye disease. I interact with a variety of patients, including people from other countries. It's a different experience every day.

Ohio State offers the latest equipment and treatments. We help people who couldn't be helped elsewhere. I'm very honest and upfront with patients who have difficult cases. Sometimes we have to say, "It's a bad problem, but we'll do everything needed to treat you."

I customize treatment to a patient's needs and personality. I may treat two patients with the same problem differently. For example, one patient may not want surgery, or another may not be able to manage complex treatment regimens.

Being able to restore sight to a person is rewarding. On post-operative days, medical students rotating with our specialty have said it's amazing. They are able to visit with patients the day after surgery with an improvement in vision that is better than it was in years, or their entire life.

Restoring a patient’s sight so that they can see to read the morning paper or their hymnals or write letters to their grandchildren again is very rewarding.

Consulting and Related Relationships

At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.

As of 03/28/2017, Dr. Hendershot has reported no financial relationships with medical device, research and/or drug companies.
