Biography
As many physicians do, I consider myself to be a helper. I chose a career in medicine to care for sick patients and help them recover – treating patients through their acute illness fulfills me as a surgeon. I was drawn to a career in surgery because the correct treatment can be rapidly lifesaving. In complex cases, I enjoy working with colleagues to deliberate options and make the best care plan. In trauma, critical care and acute care surgery, we often encounter patients on their worst days.
My career has had a few highlights. I served as trauma intensive care unit director, and as associate program director to the general surgery residency, at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center for five years. And in 2022, I won the Case Western Reserve University Department of Surgery’s faculty teaching award. As a resident, I was part of the Orlando Health Trauma team that treated Pulse Nightclub victims. Our trauma team was named Central Floridians of the year in 2016.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 11/3/2025, Dr. Loudon has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
