About Me
I became a surgeon because I am deeply passionate about helping people, a value instilled in me by family members dedicated to service. I come from a long line of firefighters, teachers and police officers, and I previously worked as a firefighter. In my prior career, I witnessed the tremendous effect that acute care surgeons had on injured patients. This inspired me to become a surgeon myself.
My fellowship training was in trauma and surgical critical care, minimally invasive surgery and comprehensive flexible endoscopy. As a surgeon with the Division of Trauma, Critical Care and Burn, I specialize in treating patients who have sustained critical traumatic injuries. My expertise includes complex abdominal wall reconstruction procedures, and I commonly help patients manage bile duct stones.
I’m excited to continue caring for patients here in central Ohio. Working in academic medicine encourages physicians to stay up-to-date on the most innovative research and treatments to improve patient outcomes, and I’m proud to be part of such an exceptional team. My role also includes teaching medical students and residents.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 09/30/2024, Dr. Varone has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
