Academics and research
I am a professor and vice chair of the Department of Pathology at The Ohio State University, where I specialize in surgical pathology, viral immunology and pathology informatics, bio banking informatics, clinical and research data integration, applications of whole-slide imaging, digital imaging, telepathology, image analysis and lab automation.
I also serve as co-director of the Comparative Pathology and Digital Imaging Shared Resource at the OSUCCC - James, and as a member of the Molecular Carcinogenesis and Chemoprevention Program. My research is focused on diagnostic and prognostic markers in bladder and prostate cancer, and on molecular classification of renal cell carcinoma.
One of my current research projects involves the characterization of onalespib, a long-acting Hsp90 inhibitor, as a chemo- and radiosensitizer in adults with newly diagnosed glioblastoma. I am also interested in comparing different antibody clones for immunohistochemistry detection of programmed cell death ligand (PD-LI) on breast, colorectal and liver cancers.
I have authored over 300 peer-reviewed articles in major scientific journals as well as several books and book chapters. I am the editor-in-chief of the journal Diagnostic Pathology and one of the editors of Journal of Pathology Informatics.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 11/3/2025, Dr. Parwani has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
