About Me
As a palliative medicine physician, I provide specialized patient and family-centered care for people living with serious illness. With a background in internal medicine and pediatrics, I've developed a special interest in the unique needs of adolescents and young adults facing life-limiting disease. I provide relief from distressing symptoms and facilitate well-being throughout the continuum of illness. Palliative care supports a patient's psychosocial and spiritual needs, while fostering communication and shared decision-making.
I believe communication is an essential component in the practice of medicine, and my favorite part about working at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is the opportunity to help educate the next generation of physicians through my efforts in communication training research. I am passionate about improving the delivery of empathic, effective communication with patients and their families.
In my free time, I enjoy volunteering at Flying Horse Farms, a camp dedicated to helping sick kids just be kids. I also enjoy cycling in Pelotonia to help fund life-saving cancer research at the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 09/29/2023, Dr. Lockwood has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
