Biography
I’m a neurosurgeon specializing in pain and functional neurosurgical disorders. I received my medical training at Loyola University and completed my neurosurgery residency and functional neurosurgery fellowship at the University of Iowa. Prior to joining The Ohio State University, I was the director of the pain and functional program at Houston Methodist, where I also received the Teacher of the Year Award for the 2018-2019 academic year.
As a neurosurgeon, I use forms of stimulation, drug delivery, surgical techniques or ablative treatments to provide symptom improvement and better quality of life. Thanks to the cutting-edge therapies and state-of-the-art facilities at The Ohio State University, I’m able to provide the best treatment options for my patients and pass on my knowledge to medical students, residents and fellows at the Wexner Medical Center.

Academics and research
My research focuses on using neuroimaging techniques to better identify and predict patients who may benefit from neuromodulation therapy earlier in their treatment. In addition, my research interests include device development and predictive modeling of stimulation therapy and how that improves the localization of device placement. During my time at the University of Iowa, I received an inventor award for our team’s work on developing a new spinal cord stimulator.

Dr. Dalm was very clear in explaining the risks, benefits, and the process of the potential surgery I will be having. I had quite a few concerns and questions going in, and I was incredibly anxious for the appointment. Dr. Dalm made sure to answer each and every question I had to the best of his ability and confirmed with me at the end of the appointment that I did not have any more questions before he left. If he could not quite answer a question, again he would answer to the best of his ability, but he also told me who could answer that question and/or at what point in this process that it would be answered. I appreciated the clear and kind answers and explanations for my questions about the surgery he will be doing for me. Overall, after this consult, I feel so much more comfortable with Dr. Dalm doing my surgery since he made an effort to explain everything to me rather than expecting me to have blind trust.
