Biography
I’m an endovascular neurosurgeon specializing in the surgical treatment of structural diseases of flow in the brain and spinal cord. These include diseases of blood flow causing Stroke and diseases of cerebrospinal fluid flow causing Hydrocephalus.
I received my medical training and PhD from Georgetown University Medical Center, and I completed my residency in neurological surgery at Duke University Medical Center. In addition, I finished fellowships in Neurointerventional Radiology at the University of Wisconsin and Duke University Medical Center. I have been a member of the Neurological Surgery faculty here at The Ohio State University since 2010.
My clinical interests include caring for individuals with various neurological conditions, including Stroke, Cerebral Hemorrhage, Vascular Malformations, Aneurysms, Carotid Stenosis, Hydrocephalus, and more. Currently, my research focuses on improving the care for patients with Stroke and Hydrocephalus. I also assist with editorial duties with the Journal of Neurosurgery, Neurosurgery, and World Neurosurgery.
Working at The Ohio State University allows me to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our residents and patients. I chose my specialty because of the rewarding opportunities to deliver positive outcomes, and The Ohio State University’s staff, resources, and personalized approach to patient care allows me to do exactly that.

Academics and research
I started as an assistant professor here at Ohio State in July 2010. I was recruited here to be an endovascular neurosurgeon.
I secured an internal grant from the Center for Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) for translational research and an external grant from the Brain Aneurysm Foundation. I have used these grants to generate data on changes in microRNA levels in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. Grant funds have supported the Laser Capture Core Facility for RNA isolation and analysis.

Consulting and related relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
