Biography
I’m a nurse practitioner in the Division of Hematology at The James. I received my master’s degree in nursing from The Ohio State University and I’m currently enrolled in the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Clinical Expert program. I’ve been a member of the Hematology team since 2013, where I’m responsible for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for any cancer patient needing skin biopsy, bone marrow biopsy, thoracentesis, paracentesis or lumbar puncture.
I am especially interested in acute leukemia as a content area. However, I have been focusing on standardization and improvement in bedside procedures. Many cancer patients have unnecessarily negative experiences with bedside procedures, and I want to use education and training to improve their experience, sample quality and outcomes.
At The James, the common agreement is that we are all trying to provide the best possible care, and whether you’re a nurse, researcher or physician, you can effect policy change. There is no routine cancer, and the volume of research being performed at the OSUCCC – James gives us the opportunity to provide hope to patients who have run out of options in other hospitals.
