I am a primary care physician who specializes in preventive medicine. I enjoy coming to work every day knowing I have the opportunity to help my patients achieve a higher quality of life.
My patients can depend on me to be a partner in their health care journey. I rely on relationship-centered communication and empathic listening in order to provide the best care possible for each patient depending on their specific health needs. The most common conditions I treat in adult patients include obesity, hypertension, diabetes and depression.
I’m passionate about helping to train the next generation of physicians. I’ve been teaching medical students and residents for more than two decades. My previous position at the Northern Nevada Medical Center involved training internal medicine residents, with a focus on retaining physicians in an area that faced a shortage of primary care experts.
I’m excited to continue my medical practice at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. I appreciate Ohio State’s commitment to improving community health and the visionary thinking of the leadership teams.
In my free time, I love to read, cook, exercise and write my blog.

Dr. Patterson is the best general practitioner I've had since childhood, and I'm a senior citizen. I was glad to switch from a doctor that churned patients. Dr. Patterson listens intently as he searches for solutions to health issues. I had only very minor issues to report (such as occasional leg cramps), and he took each issue as seriously as a major illness. Plus, he continues to search for solutions. Dr. Patterson is diligent about communicating with patients after the visit. In fact, I was surprised to receive an email message from him during a holiday. Dr. Patterson has referred me to me to expert specialists to diagnose complex issues, as he has for my wife too. In addition to his extensive medical knowledge, Dr. Patterson has a sense of humor, and he communicates well at levels that the Oscan understand.
Dr. Patterson is an exceptional doctor! Anyone I've ever shared my experience with my doctor has been both impressed and envious. I not only get awesome care, but I also very much enjoy the time spent with him - he's a great doc and a great individual.

Professional, helpful, thorough
I was having a lot of problems with my legs. Symptoms kept getting worse and I was in a lot of pain. Other doctors barely listened to me and prescribed medication for the symptoms. Or would tell me to lose weight and see if that helps. I was there for a physical with Doctor Patterson when I brought up my concerns. He rescheduled my physical and did a full exam and most Importantly listened to me and my symptoms. He did not just look at me and assume that it was due to my weight or all in my head. I was beginning to doubt myself and question if it was in my head. I have all these professional people telling me that it is nothing wrong. How do you not doubt that. He sent me to neurology which in fact diagnosed me with small fiber neuropathy and also Monoclonal gammopathy. I am now followed by Hematology and Oncology and get labs done yearly. If it was not for him, I would have never known that I had MGUS and at a higher risk of developing some cancers. So, I thank Mr Patterson for taking the time out to listen and believing in me. And just seeing and treating me like a person. I probably would of gave up and stopped advocating for myself and figured it was weight related. So, what he has taught me is to never give up and always advocate for myself and my health. Eventually someone will listen and take you seriously. He is truly the best doctor I have ever had.
