About Me

Deborah Bartholomew, MD, is a general obstetrician gynecologist and associate professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. She has dual board certification in anatomic pathology and obstetrics and gynecology.

Dr. Bartholomew joined the faculty at Ohio State in 1998 as an associate professor. Her clinical interests include general obstetrics and gynecology. She practices at Stoneridge Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Bartholomew was honored with an invitation to join the International Society of Vulvar Vaginal Disease (ISSVD) after presenting her research in the treatment of vulvodynia with gabapentin. She is the president-elect of the North American chapter of the ISSVD. Her platform will be development of a multidisciplinary curriculum for residents.

Her interest in pathology continues and is evident in her commitment to resident education in the field of colposcopy and cervical pathology. She was awarded the Colposcopy Recognition Award by the American Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology. Current research areas include HPV DNA detection techniques and HPV vaccines. She has received multiple teaching awards including the APGO Excellence in Medical Education Award, and the CREOG National Faculty Award.

She graduated in 1983 and went on to complete her obstetrics and gynecology residency at the David Grant USAF residency program in California. She was awarded a sponsored Obstetrics and Gynecologic Pathology fellowship and a second residency in anatomic pathology at the University of California-Davis. Her research thesis involved novel early DNA detection techniques for human papillomavirus. This work was awarded the Searle-Donald Richardson Award at the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology meeting in San Francisco in 1990.

Prior to joining Ohio State’s Wexner Medical Center, Dr. Bartholomew was program director of the residency program at West Virginia University-Charleston. She also served in the Air Force as a physician for six years at a large AF teaching hospital, Keesler AFB in Biloxi, Miss. This is the 1st visit where I felt Dr. B. rushed & didn't fully know my history, discuss all options, & seemed rushed. It was disappointing after all these years in her care.

I wish Dr. Bartholomew would have done a better job talking about the ultrasound as she was conducting it. She didn't speak much and it was hard not being allowed to have my husband there to help advocate for me. She brought up some concerns for what she was seeing, but was not clear about her concerns. Also, I was double booked for this appointment and waited an hour. No one came to tell me that my appointment had been double-booked.
