About Me
As a laryngologist at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, I specialize in treating patients for various vocal, airway and swallowing conditions. My clinical focus is on improving outcomes for patients with neurogenic laryngeal disorders, early glottic cancer and complex airway anomalies. I am also passionate about providing care for the professional voice services and gender-affirming voice services.
My early career as a professional opera singer sparked a deep interest in the science behind vocal performance, ultimately leading me to pursue medicine. Helping people find their voice, literally, is immensely rewarding, and my background as a professional vocalist also allows me to develop tailored treatment approaches using both medical and performance-based perspectives. And, with this deep understanding of physiology in professional voice, I can better treat patients with no voice at all, whether that be from nerve damage, trauma, or cancer.
I’m proud to collaborate with the multidisciplinary team here at the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center. As the only hospital in the area with a dedicated Voice Center, we work together to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients with voice, airway and swallowing disorders. This team-based approach ensures that patients receive comprehensive, coordinated care tailored to their specific needs. From singing voice specialists assisting with vocal health, technique and performance, to pulmonologists, gastroenterologists, allergists and neurologists addressing the multifactorial aspects of voice disorders, our close collaboration allows for more effective and personalized treatment plans with faster and more accurate diagnoses.
In addition to my clinical responsibilities, I have dedicated my research and academic pursuits to validating the patient experience, investigating the relationship between self-reported outcome measures and objective aerodigestive tests. My research interests also include understanding the physiology of voice disorders to develop treatments that best address underlying somatosensory or neurolaryngeal problem.I have received several awards to support my research and have presented my findings at national conferences. I’ve written more than 25 articles published in peer-reviewed journals and authored several book chapters in the field of laryngology. I serve on the editorial board for an international journal, and as a reviewer for several national journals.
I enjoy helping to educate the next generation of physicians as an assistant professor of Otolaryngology in The Ohio State University College of Medicine. My role includes leading educational sessions with medical students and mentoring them on research projects.
In my free time, I enjoy traveling and spending time with my family and friends. We take every opportunity to support the arts in the Columbus area, occasionally participating ourselves. I am also a board member of Opera Columbus.
