Biography
I am Frank R. Weigel, DO, and I specialize in cardiovascular disease prevention, clinical lipidology and the diagnosis and management of heart disease. My practice at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center focuses on helping patients understand their cardiovascular health and developing personalized care plans that align with their goals and lifestyle.
My goal is to provide thoughtful, individualized cardiovascular care that goes beyond treating a diagnosis. I take the time to listen to my patients, explain what their symptoms and test results mean and help them make informed decisions about their health. I believe in applying evidence-based medicine thoughtfully, addressing concerns proactively while avoiding unnecessary testing and treatments. Whether a patient comes to me because of symptoms, an abnormal test result, a new diagnosis or a desire to reduce their future cardiovascular risk, I want them to leave each visit with a clear understanding of their health and a plan for moving forward.
A particular focus of my practice is cardiovascular prevention and clinical lipidology. I am passionate about identifying cardiovascular risk early and helping patients understand what that risk means for them. By addressing factors such as cholesterol, blood pressure, lifestyle habits and family history, I help patients take meaningful steps to reduce their risk of future heart disease.
As a general cardiologist, I care for patients with a wide range of cardiovascular conditions. My areas of expertise include echocardiography, cardiac computed tomography (CT) and stress tests. I enjoy the challenge of evaluating complex cardiovascular concerns and applying thoughtful clinical reasoning to provide the most appropriate care for each patient. Working in an academic medical center also allows me to stay engaged with emerging research and evolving evidence so I can bring the latest knowledge to my patients' care.

Academics and research
I am an assistant professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, and I specialize in cardiovascular medicine, clinical education and mentorship. My research focuses on advancing cardiovascular care through scholarly inquiry, dissemination of research findings and the education and development of future physicians.
My experience in academic medicine has shaped my approach to research, teaching and patient care. Working in an academic medical center allows me to integrate clinical practice with education and continuous learning. These experiences have reinforced the importance of asking meaningful questions, evaluating evidence thoughtfully and translating new knowledge into better care for patients.
Teaching and mentorship are central to my academic work. I value opportunities to work with medical students, resident physicians, fellows and colleagues, helping them develop clinical reasoning skills and confidence in navigating complex cardiovascular conditions. Teaching challenges me to continually refine my own understanding while fostering an environment that encourages curiosity, collaboration and professional growth.
My scholarly interests include cardiovascular disease prevention, advanced cardiovascular imaging and the advancement of evidence-based cardiovascular care. I have presented research at national scientific meetings and contributed to peer-reviewed publications. Through my research, teaching and mentorship, I strive to contribute to the cardiovascular medicine community while supporting the next generation of physician-scientists and clinicians.
