Biography

I am a pulmonary, critical care and emergency medicine specialist at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. I specialize in treating critically ill patients in the hospital and those with lung diseases in the outpatient environment. I have a special interest in caring for patients with sarcoidosis in my clinic, but also see patients with other lung diseases such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

I enjoy solving puzzles and thinking outside the box to find the best solutions for my patients’ problems. I pride myself on my relationships with patients and always take the time to listen to and understand their concerns. My background as a social worker providing psychosocial counseling prior to becoming a physician gave me a foundation in providing empathic and patient-centered care, which I draw on heavily in my practice.

I am also passionate about participating in innovative research to help advance the science of medicine. My current research interests include novel forms of sedation for patients in the intensive care unit and procedural settings, and early sepsis recognition in the emergency department. I am also an investigator on several large, multicenter clinical trials. My work has been published in several peer-reviewed journals.

In addition to my clinical work, I have the privilege of helping to educate the next generation of physicians. I am a core education faculty member for the Emergency Medicine Residency Program, and I often train internal medicine residents and medical students on their clinical rotations. I have been honored to receive several teaching awards in my medical career.

Outside the hospital, I play several musical instruments and enjoy writing and recording music in my home studio in my free time. As a proud dad and the husband of a trauma surgeon, I value quality time with my family more than anything else.
