Biography
As a family medicine physician, my approach to patient care is centered on treating patients as individuals and individualizing treatment strategies and goals in balance with scientific evidence and expertise. My goal is to educate and positively influence the health of my patients by taking the time to really listen while providing open and honest feedback. I thrive on thorough discussion and ongoing communication as it leads to achieving long-term health goals with better outcomes.
My focus within primary care are metabolic diseases including high blood pressure, diabetes care, fatty liver disease, heart disease and high cholesterol. We always focus on maximizing lifestyle benefits and I work with my patients on sustainable healthy outcomes. I collaborate with patients using medication as indicated to supplement positive life changes
In my free time, I follow a number of sports including Ohio State football, basketball, soccer, tennis and baseball. I’m a soccer enthusiast, Columbus Crew and Seattle Mariner fan, and recreational tennis player. I also love to bike and play bridge. My wife, son and I live in the Worthington area and enjoy getting out together and exploring our community. We also love spending time outdoors riding bikes and hiking with our two rescue dogs.

Academics and research
My primary area of interest is the developing field of diabetes care. A number of new medications are becoming available and their efficacy and safety remain to be established, though many have great promise. I hope to follow closely to allow for the best possible treatment of our diabetic populations.

Consulting and related relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. Thorough, knowledgeable, careful, empathetic
I know that I'm pretty challenging as a patient because I'm very detailed and I do a lot of self-advocacy. I ask a lot of questions, some of which are hard to answer. I appreciate how Dr. Jungwirth is patient and thinks about what I'm asking as we explore issues that aren't always easy to answer.
Always exercises right level of precaution and intervention
Dr. J listened completely available without distractions during the visit. He expressed different points of view for addressing different conditions/situations regarding exercise such as types of electrolyte replacements and their effects on HTN
He never seems rushed. Spends whatever time needed. He is the only medical person that really worked to try to figure out my gait issue. Made a referral that did know my problem. I spent 2-3 years trying to find someone that could tell me what was wrong. I will always love and trust him for that. He really listens.
Dr. Jungwirth took time with me to review all facets of my health, including potential lifestyle changes and follow ups.
He was very attentive and even brought up concerns from my last exam to see if I was still worried about them.
He took plenty of time, was very methodical working through my results and discussing what concerns I had.
He takes as much time as needed to address all of my concerns and questions. I never feel rushed. He is very thorough.

Dr. Jungwirth continues to be one of my most favorite doctors ever. His relaxed, attentive style and wealth of medical/health knowledge makes him an exceptional doctor.

Dr Jungwirth is truly excellent and also exceptional. My previous internist, Dr Cynthia Kreger, I thought couldn't be beat. And was with her for 25 years. But Dr Jungwirth is right up there too. He knows the research, knows how to make it comprehensible to me who is highly educated but not medical. And he knows how to explain bodily systems, etc. Clearly he also knew my history.
Very curious. Honestly I've never had a more thorough medical appointment, and this was a "get established" visit for a new patient.
