About me

As a specialist in interstitial lung disease, I believe that partnering with the patient and the referring physician is essential to optimal care. As a pulmonary and critical care physician, I believe in a comprehensive approach to evaluation and treatment of patients who require inpatient care.

In the office, I specialize in interstitial lung disease. These are a group of over 150 lung diseases that can cause inflammation and scar formation in the lungs. Interstitial lung disease has been my primary focus for the past 25 years.

Ohio State brings an extraordinarily high level of specialty expertise in patient care and is home to the "specialist's specialists." I am very proud to have participated in the training of many of Ohio's best physicians who now practice in hospitals and communities throughout the state.

In my free time I enjoy relaxing with my family, reading and traveling. However, my favorite activity is a day of fishing on my kayak. As I always say, my equation for happiness is - a kayak plus a fishing pole equals heaven.

Again, first time meeting him, but he was attentive, interested and friendly. I think he will be a good doctor to treat my ailment. I am confident he knows his business.

I have only had good experiences with Dr. Allen. He has a dry sense of humor and I think sometimes doesn't know what to make of me at times but that's alright. Many people don't know what to make of me. I'm not one to be subtle. I say what I think. I'm fairly direct. I'm an old nurse. But I also have a pretty good sense of humor. He seems to take my questions and comments as they're intended and answers everything I've asked fully, even when I've asked my question in almost brutal terms. He does "get" me and he seems to be 100% honest with me. I can't ask for anything more.

Dr Allen is the doctor all should strive to be. He knows his area of expertise, he listens to my concerns and questions and he t rests me like a person just not another patient.
