About Me

As a specialist in interstitial lung disease, I believe that partnering with the patient and the referring physician is essential to optimal care. As a pulmonary and critical care physician, I believe in a comprehensive approach to evaluation and treatment of patients who require inpatient care.

In the office, I specialize in interstitial lung disease. These are a group of over 150 lung diseases that can cause inflammation and scar formation in the lungs. Interstitial lung disease has been my primary focus for the past 25 years.

Ohio State brings an extraordinarily high level of specialty expertise in patient care and is home to the "specialist's specialists." I am very proud to have participated in the training of many of Ohio's best physicians who now practice in hospitals and communities throughout the state.

In my free time I enjoy relaxing with my family, reading and traveling. However, my favorite activity is a day of fishing on my kayak. As I always say, my equation for happiness is - a kayak plus a fishing pole equals heaven.

The manner of Dr. Allen was so kind and caring. I wish he was my primary care doctor.

Dr. James Allen was excellent, agggresive with getting me on the right track to recovery. He spoke clearly, I believe he spent at least 30-45 minutes with me. He explained everything, give me his opinion, spoke about my blood work, medical history, procedure to do next. Refered me to a excellent Thoracic surgeon (which got in touch with me right a way). Dr. Allen was better then I could imagine, I would highly recommend him to anyone who has a pulmonary issues and are not getting any answers or any help or any improvement. He is an awesome Doctor, and Pulmonologist, I am very happy that my family doctor referred him to me. I look forward to finding out what's wrong with me and getting answers, results, and feeling back to normal. Thank you Dr. James Allen.

Dr. Allen was friendly, not in a hurry, explained what he was seeing on the CT scan. Had come prepared, had looked over my records the night before. As hard as it was to get time with him, he took his time with us.
