Academics and research
As Director of Clinical Trials and Industry Relations for CTRACT, my work connects researchers across organizations and helps teams fund, promote and conduct clinical trials.
I also serve as Associate Program Director for Ohio State's General Surgery Residency Program; as Surgical Director for the College of Medicine's Clinical Skills Education and Assessment Center; and as the Medical Director for University Hospital's K9W Acute Care Unit. These leadership and training roles keep me at the forefront of surgical technology and techniques.
I see the daily impact of research on my own burn, trauma and critical care patients - how rapid translation from bench to bedside transforms lives. My own research and areas of focus include repair, recovery and reconstruction of burns, frostbite and wounds. Being a researcher myself, I've had opportunities to participate and lead multiple studies, publish a variety of journal articles and education materials and present at local, national and international meetings and conferences.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 11/3/2025, John Loftus has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
