About Me

As a pulmonary and critical care specialist at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, I provide comprehensive and compassionate care to patients with both acute and chronic conditions. I regularly treat interstitial lung disease (ILD) and other pulmonary issues including sarcoidosis, bronchiectasis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma and others.

I work hard to understand both the medical and personal aspects of my patients’ conditions and how their symptoms impact their daily lives. I offer customized treatments that best meet the unique needs and values of each of my patients. I also consider the entire family’s needs. I was a high school teacher in New York City before I enrolled in medical school and that experience instilled in me the importance of communities and families in providing patient care.

In addition to patient care, I am also focused on innovative research to advance the treatments we can provide. My current research examines access to care for patients with interstitial lung disease. I have published peer-reviewed journal articles pertaining to pulmonary fibrosis and other chronic pulmonary conditions.

When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my wife and son outdoors. Our family enjoys hiking and going to parks and playgrounds around Columbus.

Listened to my concerns about having covid in last month with 1 lung. I needed to be reassured that the lung was functioning properly. He was great.

I've visited Dr. Odackal twice now for treatment of my lung condition. We've also talked on the phone or messaged over MyChart. Without a doubt, Dr. Odackal is the best doctor I have worked with. His knowledge and understanding of my condition is second to none. He explains things in an easy to understand way and he seems to be genuinely concerned with helping me. I've never had a doctor spend more than 10-15 with me and Dr. Odackal was with me for close to an hour last monday.

Dr. Odakal gave me plenty of time to discuss, ask questions, reassure me, made me feel hopeful, responds QUICKLY to mychart messages and even called me at home to discuss a test result when I kept asking questions via mychart which I appreciated.
